Wow! The ole grey mare she ain't what she used ta be! ( Does anyone remember that song)? Kinda explains how I'm feeling today, a little over 36 hrs after the read a thon. Granted, I was working on call as well, and no more than got settled into bed at midnight when a pronouncement needed to be done. Returned to my home and bed at 0300, alarm went off at 0530 for 0800 Volleyball tournament in Hollis NH. Of course, as always happens, just get settled in, and the phone starts ringing.
I truly meant to do more challenges. I read every spare moment I had, and truly loved that. Even won a prize, from one of the challenges I DID do. Nothing related to meritorious posting, just the luck of the draw as a participant in said challenge. Now, for the book of my dreams. Well, the book of my dreams would be written by ME, so that's not quite it. Sure would like a special one though, since I'm not purchasing it! Any suggestions folks?

As previously described, I've lots to choose from when it's time to read. A dear boy just sent me an Amazon gift card, so I've even got some "credit" on my Kindle. (Thanks Steve, you're the best!)
Purchased HOUSE RULES by Jodi Picoult, after reading the sample and being completely compelled to better know Jacob, the 18yr old boy with Aspbergers . How does she DO it? For any of you who have read Jodis other works, she writes everything as if she has lived the life. Incredible research? Maybe, but truly, you read this book and you just FEEL the ache of Jacobs brother as he fights with his feelings of inadequacy and invisibility, since the whole family, his mother especially, lives each and every day helping Jacob handle life. I won't go too far into details, but just know this... someone ends up dead. Jacob is brilliant and a very good forensic scientist, tho only as a hobby. His BROTHER is the last to see the dead girl, well, NOT dead. The cop investigating is getting the hots for the mother..I can hardly put the book down! What is YOUR favorite JP book? I've read most of them. "19 Minutes" was very good. "MY Sisters Keeper", of course, still tugs on my heart. Thanks for stopping by. Hope to hear all about what YOU'VE been reading, as well! Have a great evening... I'm hitting it to get totally caught up on the weekend. Back to my nose in a book (grin) tomorrow!

IF THE COVER FITS

This mini challenge, from hour 8, I believe, comes to us from Tricia at The Eclectic-Eccentric.

If the Cover Fits...

It's time for another mini-challenge. This time around I am challenging you to find book covers that fit the following categories:

Disturbing
Vibrant
Beautiful
Scary
Moving

Here are my takes on that, Tricia. Hope you like em!

VIBRANT

SCARY

MOVING

DISTURBING

BEAUTIFUL

Where are you reading from today? Where am I? New Hampshire, yup that's right, just north of Mass! Gonna go sit on my new living room furniture, snuggled up in my Americana Quilt that my sis in law Jen made me for xmas. Warm sweats because it's in the 50s here in Cow Hampshire, my fav. Woodstock Inn Weasel Wheat Beer Tshirt, fuzzy socks, hair in a messy pony tail, just chilling. Did I mention that I'm on call today as well? Doh!

3 facts about me: I'm an aspiring writer, love to take pictures especially of my daughter and beautiful grandbaby Evalyn, and I own and ride a Harley Davidson Heritage Softtail, which is my "happy place".

How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours? Um, 9 paperbacks, 15 or so on my Kindle, 2 magazines..

Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)? Just to relax and enjoy myself. To blog often, cheer as well, and maybe finish a couple? Also to inspire my friends to get involved for October, and to let them discover this other "side" of me.

If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, Any advice for people doing this for the first time? I'm a (gasp) virgin! This being my first, I will give you the advice left by Stacy , the first blog I looked at answering these questions: PACE YOURSELF!! take breaks, walk around, nap, eat...and enjoy!

Read-a-thon 2010

So, it begins! I've had several blogs in the past, but never one solely dedicated to my love of reading. Even as a young girl I remember SNEAKING books... either that my mom said I was too young to read, ("Helter Skelter" she was right!) or via a flashlight way past bedtime, under the covers as I scarfed down the words like a proverbial late night snack. Just discovered this read a thon. Dang! What a great idea! Wish there was one of these once a month, I'd love the "excuse" to just curl up on the new couch, quilt on lap, beverage at hand, and READ the day away. Such lacadaisical times are few and far between! Ok, so enough with the intro, let's get on with the READING!
